“The Network contributes to the advance of the democratic culture by means of a systematic and specific work of education and promotion addressed to strengthen capacity, research and debate in the human rights field. The activities proposed will also gradually strengthen the work of human rights activists, NGO’s, lawyers and the judicial community. Moreover, through training activities and exchange of experiences, this project will contribute to articulate work and knowledge between the academic community and practitioners. This way, it will also be possible to empower human rights organizations such as CELS, by means of improving its technical capacities”.
“The proposal and further consolidation of the Latin-American and European Network on Human Rights, with its principal objective of furthering Human Rights in Latin America and in an expanding Europe, runs perfectly parallel to the objectives of the human rights knowledge exchange and capacitating programmes that the University of Ghent is and has been running. The creation of a broader Latin American-European network can only be seen as the logical step forward in the existing Ghent University policy and cooperation schemes on the advancement of human rights in the Americas, Europe and Africa”.
“The Human Rights Program of the Universidad Iberoamericana has a goal, the training of legal professionals in International Human Rights (both the Inter-American and Universal Systems), International Humanitarian Law and International Criminal Law. The consolidation of the Inter-American and European Network on Human Rights is then of extreme importance for the Universidad Iberoamericana, in order to share experiences from other universities, enabling us to help out with the consolidation of the rule of law in Mexico and the development of expertise in these areas among the Mexican legal community”.
“The Latin and European Network of Human Rights offers an unique possibility to strengthen the cooperation between the European and Latin- American Universities and Non Governmental Organizations in the field of research, education, joint publications and mobility between the partners. Especially, the particularities of the regional systems on the protection of human rights in both continents will be the central focus point of the cooperation. In this way, to share and to disseminate knowledge related to human rights of course materials, including books and publications such as readers are fully supported through the impact of human rights across borders”.
